Calling All Volunteers!
For the fourth year in a row, the Terrapin Foundation held our annual beach clean up day at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, CT. With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we cleaned up the beach area along Soundview Drive, loading dozens of garbage bags with glass, plastic bags, beer cans, and we even found a tire. Keeping our neighborhoods and our environment clean and safe is an important part of the Foundation’s mission.
According to the EPA marine debris has a negative impact in several ways. Environmentally it is often ingested by marine life or local birds, and the same wildlife can be caught in the debris, choking them or inhibiting their growth. The local economy can suffer from loss of tourism dollars and fishing revenue. Beachgoers are unfortunately injured every year by sharp objects left behind or washed up on the shore.
Terrapin Foundation and the VibeTribe join forces each year for this coastal cleanup event along Seaside Park to give back to the Bridgeport community and Long Island Sound. One and all are welcome to pitch in for this event. Food, drinks, and cleanup supplies will be provided to volunteers. Please wear sensible safe shoes, and bring gloves if you have them. To RSVP or for more information, please email us at wendy@terrapinfoundation.org. We plan to be back next year, and we hope you’ll join us!
